First Complication of Diabetes?
What is the first complication of diabetes? Is it same across all type 1 diabetics? how is it different for others?
Re: First Complication of Diabetes?
What usually happens first is the nerve damage. There are several nerve disorders that will start to cause problems in several parts of the body, such as the heart, digestive system, and the sex organs. This is why it is important to see your doctor right away if you have any kind of numbness in your feet, legs, or arms.
Re: First Complication of Diabetes?
If you have Hyperglycemia, it can make capillary walls thick. This makes the blood stickier and your small blood vessels can leak. This of course will lead to poor circulation to the arms, legs, skin, and feet. It can also affect the eyes and kidneys.

Another initial complication is when your arteries start to harden, aka, atherosclerosis. When this happens, you run the risk of a stroke, heart attack, or poor circulation. Heart disease is very common with people who find out they have diabetes.
